In Search of a Home… Clifton Animal Shelter Pet of the Week: Ivan

Image

Hi, my name is Ivan! Last week, my friend Alexa from the shelter, told her story, and lo and behold she got adopted and now has a home of her very own. This week, I’m hoping it’s my turn.

I had been living outside with my sister Ilana and our mom. This really nice man was feeding us, and when it started to get cold out he wanted to take us in really bad. But his apartment doesn’t allow pets (boo) so he thought it would be better for me and my sister to go to the shelter, because we were so small. The shelter people are super nice. They always make sure that all of us have plenty of food, it’s nice and warm in the shelter, and I never, ever get snow on my face anymore. But, I’m super scared inside my cage and it got even scarier when my sister got adopted… without me!

My human friends at the shelter know how much I love my “free” time — for you non-shelter humans, that’s the time I get to be outside my cage and being held and played with by one of the volunteers. Unfortunately, there are A LOT of cats at the shelter, and only a few volunteers, so to be fair to everyone my “free” time isn’t all that long. When I get a little one-on-one time, I am a total love bug. Belly rubs are my favorite thing — have you ever had one, because they are really fun? I’d love to get a home so that every day would be 24 hours of “free” time, instead of just an hour or so a day. So far, though, no luck in the getting-adopted department.

It might be because I’m a black cat. Black cats like me, don’t show as well in pictures, but I am a pretty cute little guy if I do say so myself. I have silky soft black fur, gorgeous amber eyes, and if purring were a competition, I’d get the gold medal. I’m under a year old, so I’m still young and playful (but not annoying like some of those really little guys that show up at the shelter from time to time). I’ve already been neutered (let’s not talk about that again, please), and I’ve had all of my shots. I really love other cats and would love a kitty friend to play with and hang out with, so if you want to adopt me with another cat or to keep your cat company, I’m cool with that. Basically I’m the perfect pet just waiting for a home of my own, will it be with you?

Fill out an online adoption application and then come in and meet me! Even if you don’t end up adopting me, I’ll get some “free” time and we can play a little. You can see some more pictures and even a video all about me on the Clifton Animal Shelter website. I can’t wait to meet you!
