NJ State Introduces Eviction Protection for NJ Renters

NJ State has introduced protections to renter households that have economic hardships as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, now that the eviction moratorium has ended.

New Jersey households with income that falls below 120% of the county's median income are permanently protected from eviction or removal for nonpayment of rent, late payment of rent, or failure to accept a rent increase between March 1, 2020 to August 31, 2021.

These protections are not affected by the Supreme Court's decision on the CDC's eviction moratorium.

Households must self-certify their income level to learn if they qualify, which can be done online here.
