New Jersey residents can now receive up to four free Covid-19 tests from the federal government. The website covidtests.gov has been setup to address the nationwide shortage of tests; each NJ household can order four rapid antigen tests at no charge.
President Biden originally announced that the government was purchasing 500 million Covid-19 rapid tests to address the long lines and scarcity of at-home tests, last week that figure was updated to an additional 500 million.
To order the test, US residents need to provide a name and address, there is no shipping fee and credit card and insurance information are not required.
Federal officials recommend ordering a test in advance, as orders are planned to ship within 7 to 12 days. For NJ residents, these tests are necessary to comply with quarantine protocols in schools and some workplaces.
