The utility shutoff grace period was extended yesterday by Governor Murphy from December 31, 2021, to March 15, 2022, for all water, municipal electric, and sewer customers.
The new legislation also extends the payment plan provisions that requires all utilities to offer a 12-month, no down payment, interest-free payment plan to customers before service can be disconnected or liens imposed for non-payment.
It also requires a Winter Termination Program for water, sewer, and electric customers of municipal utilities and local authorities for the 2022-2023 winter season that protects customers who are eligible for public assistance programs or can't pay their bills from utility disconnections between November 15 and March 15.
Governor Murphy explained these protections are intended to help struggling NJ residents and families still impacted by the disruptions of the Covid-19 pandemic. By expanding Winter Termination Protections households can contact their utilities to setup a payment plan or apply for assistance programs through the state.

I think parking was an issue for some business owners. One owner I know asked where would all the people park, especially from out of town. I hope this happens. This would be fun
