Over a week after the Nov. 2nd election the races for Passaic County Commissioner and County Surrogate have not been called. Counting of vote by mail ballots continued as the County reported 94.6% of districts received.
Currently, Democrat incumbent Sandy Lazzara has moved ahead of the Republican challengers and now leads by a little over 400 votes. Two remaining Republicans, Nicolino Gallo and Lucy Rivera are in second and third, with Democrat incumbent John Bartlett trailing by 11 votes. This delays a decision on this tight race until provisional ballots are counted beginning Monday.
Previously, Democrat Zoila Cassanova had been trailing Republican Aisha Mamkej for the County surrogate seat, but she now leads by a little more than 700 votes.
These are the tightest races Passiac County has seen in years. If any of the three Republican challengers are elected to the County Commission it will be the first in over a decade.
Sunny, with a high of 84 and low of 56 degrees. Sunny for the morning, clear overnight.
