Election Day - Polls Open until 8:00pm in Clifton

Today is the final day of voting in NJ, with polls open until 8:00pm for those who haven't already cast their ballot during this year's early voting.  Polling locations for Clifton can be found here on the NJ State Division of Elections website.

Locally the Clifton election will select 3 seats for the Clifton Board of Education.   Nine candidates are running, including 3 incumbents, for the three open seats.  The candidates, in order of ballot position, include:

1. Daniel Gaudet

2. Robert D'Arco

3. Alan Paris

4. Mark Brunciak

5. Frank Kasper (Incumbent)

6. Avraham Eisenman

7. Lucy Danny  (Incumbent)

8. Vita Marlena Cowan

9. Judy Bassford  (Incumbent)

In Passaic County, there are eight Democrats and Republicans for three seats on the Board of Commissioners including three Democratic incumbents:

  • Assad Akhter 
  • John Bartlett 
  • Cassandra "Sandi" Lazzara 

And three Republican challengers:

  • William Marsala 
  • Aileen Rivera
  • Nicolino "Nick" Gallo

The race for county surrogate includes two newcomers for the seat held by Passaic County Surrogate Bernice Toledo. Toledo, whos is suspended from her second-term after she was charged with falsifying records.   Candidates are Democrat Zoila Cassanova and Republican Aisha Mamkej.

The State Assembly race for District 34 which includes Clifton sees incumbents Thomas Giblin and Britnee Timberlake against Republican challengers Tafari Anderson, Irene DeVita and Clenard Childress Jr. 

The State Governor's race could see Phil Murphy become the first Democratic governor to win reelection in 40 years.  His challenger, Republican Jack Ciattarelli, is a former Assemblyman in the 16th District and Freeholder in Somerset County.  This week, most polls showed Murphy with a lead over Ciattarelli, with reports ranging from 5 to 11 points. 

Election results will be posted on the Passaic County website tonight after polls close.
