Clifton Native Hailey Mia Auditions on NBC's 'The Voice'
Clifton native Hailey Mia was featured on an opening episode of NBC’s hit show “The Voice.” During her blind audition, Hailey dazzled the celebrity coaches who commented “Wow” and “Beautiful” during her powerful rendition of Tate McRae’s hit song “You Broke Me First. Coaches Kelly Clarkson and Ariana Grande turned their chairs to compete to be her coach, as her mother, Gina, clapped in excitement.
All four judges were shocked when Hailey revealed she was just 13 years old. Hailey excitedly said she had been waiting until she was 13 to be on the show and was “so honored” to audition.
Kelly Clarkson went on to compliment Hailey on her gift and control at such a young age, noting that with such a powerful voice she could “really sing anything.”
John Legend told Hailey her voice “connects with the crowd” and complimented her on how well she did with a difficult song.
Ariana Grande, in competing for her role as coach, tells Hailey she is spectacular and a phenomenal singer. She feels that with more practice singing on the show and coaching to learn how to use the features of her voice she will continue “to flourish.”
Blake Shelton adds that she’s in a position to be the youngest person to ever win The Voice, and jokes she’d also be the first to win on Ariana Grande’s team. Kelly reminds her she has no one else on her team like the young singer.
After a few tense moments and excited laughter from Hailey, she chooses Ariana Grande as her coach, who stands to cheer after a moment of shock.
Hailey will perform again in a few weeks when the show’s Battle Rounds begin after the Blind Auditions and the coach teams are filled.
