Keeping Kids Safe on the Streets
Lieutenant Mohammad Droubi, Clifton Traffic Division Commander, issued a memo to the Clifton Public Schools outlining important guidelines for keeping pedestrians safe.
According to the memo, there were 7,388 pedestrians killed in traffic crashes in the United States in 2021. This number represents a nearly 13% increase from the year before and equates to 20 pedestrians per day being killed in a traffic crash.
While drivers are certainly responsible for following all traffic laws and watching for pedestrians, there are many things that pedestrians should do to make sure that they are crossing safely, too. Review these tips with your children and teens regularly and model good pedestrian safety when you are out with them. If you are driving, be mindful of all traffic and crosswalk lights and remember that driving while distracted is a dangerous contributor to accidents.
