A Taste of Romance in Clifton
Looking for A Taste of Romance in Clifton?
No, this isn’t that type of article.
But we all know there are times when you and your other half just need a romantic meal together. Whether it’s for a holiday or just to celebrate your relationship, a delicious meal in a cozy space is sometimes exactly what you need. And you don’t have to leave Clifton to find some lovely spots. We’ve rounded up some of our readers’ favorites — as well as some less conventional options … if that’s your sort of thing.
Let’s start with some romantic options that might require a reservation. Matthew’s Italian Restaurant at 1131 Bloomfield Avenue provides a fine dining atmosphere that holds onto its welcoming neighborhood charm. Their menu promises Italian classics from Sunday sauce to filet mignon. With their white tablecloths and cozy atmosphere, Matthew’s remains at the top of the list any time locals are asked for a good spot for a romantic meal.
Another Italian option is Spuntino at 70 Kingsland Road. Spuntino offers a vast menu of Italian classics as well as cheese and salumi boards. Their wine list is robust, too. They have a special Valentine’s Day tasting menu that’s available for the entire weekend, from February 14th through the 18th; call to secure a reservation.
The Barrow House at 1296 Van Houten Avenue is another favorite with locals. The restaurant itself is a 19th-century farmhouse with unique interior rooms. They serve American standards like burgers, salads, sandwiches, and pizzas alongside a full bar menu. This is a great option if you’re looking for an inventive and delicious cocktail list.
If you’re in the mood for something special that’s a bit more casual, consider grabbing dessert at Cafe Bubamara. Located at 263 Parker Avenue in Clifton’s Botany Village, Cafe Bubamara is a family-owned celebration of community, offering Turkish coffee, salads, sandwiches, traditional Balkan foods, and delightful desserts. The restaurant offers uniquely-styled and comfortable indoor and outdoor seating options, designed to feel cozy and inviting. Much of the decor (and the music) evokes Yugoslavian nostalgia.
Another quick and tasty option is Qahwah House at 441 Crooks Avenue. This family-owned Yemeni coffee shop offers coffees, teas, pastries, and snacks in a cozy space. It’s the perfect spot for a day-date, such as a remote work session with your better half, or a special way to wrap up a night on the town with coffee and dessert.
And let’s not discount the comfortable romance of a take-out meal. Love is a judgment-free zone, after all! How about a romantic car picnic at the scenic overlook atop Garrett Mountain? You and your date could share an Italian Sub from Agamie’s, at 62 Market Street, while gazing out on the horizon. And you can even share the love at Agamie’s by paying it forward, buying a future meal for someone who may not be able to afford it.
Maybe it’s a Netflix and chill kind of night? Nothing makes takeout more special than sushi. Settle in with a few rolls from Ino Sushi, at 116 Market Street, and set your phones to Do Not Disturb. (So you don’t miss the movie, of course.)
No matter what you choose, there are plenty of ways to show some love to Clifton’s small businesses as you look for date ideas. Let us know if we missed one of your favorites by commenting below.
