The Clifton Times Pet of The Week: Meet Stumpy!

Meet Stumpy! This cute Basset Hound and Jack Russell mix puppy is looking for his forever home through Rosemarie's Rescue Ranch. Stumpy is up to date on his vaccinations, neutered and fully vetted. He is affectionate, housebroken, and gets along well with other dogs and humans, and would do well in a home with dogs and kids. Check out Stumpy’s Petfinder profile HERE to learn more.

Stumpy (right) and his short little legs came to New Jersey from a high-kill shelter in Kentucky. He loves to be carried and will sit on your shoulder like a parrot! For extra cuteness, his right ear sticks out like a wing at all times - it never goes down.

Stumpy loves his toys, especially the squeaky ones, but is also happy to share them and loves to play with the other dogs. When a guest visits, Stumpy is the first to jump into their laps for pets. He is currently being fostered in a home with four other dogs and has shown no aggression to the other dogs around anything - not food, not toys. He really loves people and makes friends quickly, human and otherwise. Stumpy needs to snuggle someone or something in order to sleep after a busy bout of puppying. Sometimes he will nap with his foot in his mouth for extra comfort. Stumpy does not like to be alone very much, so RRR believes that a home where he is not alone all day is the key to success.

If you think that Stumpy might be a good fit for your family, Rosemarie’s Rescue Ranch has a Foster to Adopt Option that is a great way to experience adding a new family member, without making a lifetime commitment first. The minimum commitment is just two weeks. Fosters always get first dibs to adopt within these two weeks but are not required to. All supplies, including a loaner crate, harness, food, etc. are provided by the rescue, along with 24/7 support from a personal liaison who can help you with any questions you might have as you adjust to one another. No pressure, no second thoughts, the Foster to Adopt Option allows you to just enjoy your time together and see if the chemistry is right and if this pet is a fit for your family. The Clifton Times did a feature on Rosemarie's Rescue Ranch and their founder Susan Janett, and their foster-to-adopt program, with more details HERE.

All applications can be found at You can also donate to Rosemarie’s Rescue Ranch to help vet, transport, and support lovely dogs like Stumpy as they get a second chance at life. Rosemarie’s Rescue Ranch also has a resale shop in Verona, which raises funds for the rescue.

Rosemarie’s Rescue Ranch will also be holding their Winter Wonderland Pancake Breakfast fundraiser on December 3, 2023 from 9 am to 1 pm. The fundraiser, which is held at the Verona Community Center, features a Silent Auction, which includes over 50 baskets donated by local businesses to bid on. All the funds raised will go to defray medical and transport expenses and help save more animals. There are crafts for the kids and Santa will be stopping by for photos from 10 am to noon.
