Some of the scariest words a person might hear about themselves or a loved one is, “You’ve got cancer.” Fortunately, treatment has improved dramatically over the years in large part due to research funded by such organizations as the American Cancer Society. One of the fundraising arms of the ACS is Relay for Life, which involves communities with one mutual goal – eradicating cancer! Fundraising money goes to research, advocacy, awareness, and assistance with active treatment and screening. The Relay events are held in the spring but planning starts well before then.
Relay is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Clifton Stadium. It is coordinated by Team Captains who recruit family and friends to help with all aspects of the event, from fundraising to publicity to helping on the night of the event. Briefly, it’s an evening when survivors, caregivers, and others walk around the track to honor and remember. Luminaria bags are available for supporters to purchase and decorate to commemorate those whose lives were lost or who are still fighting. The evening is somber yet hopeful, emotional and memorable. That’s where the Relay for Life of Clifton and Rutherford needs your help.
The American Cancer Society is calling on all community members to participate in the planning of the annual Relay For Life of Clifton and Rutherford. Be a part of the fight, and together we can beat our biggest rival. The American Cancer Society is seeking volunteers to form or join teams and stand shoulder-to-shoulder with us and cancer patients and those supporting them.
The first organizational meeting for the 2024 Relay for Life will be Monday September 18th at 7PM at the Allwood Library community room. Please bring any ideas you have for fundraising, activities for the night of Relay, and please bring any interested family or friends.
If you would like to be a part of this great event with the planning or maybe start a team of your own, please join us at our Leaders meeting. We hope to see you there!
