Fun and Games for Clifton's Seniors - Clifton Social
The Clifton Senior Barn was brightly decorated with purple balloon centerpieces on each table as well as fun games on paper such as themed crosswords, word searches, and word scrambles at a recent Clifton Social. The seniors got to work solving the puzzles together while chatting and table hopping to catch up with old friends. Because this was a “social”, there was a lavish spread of cookies, muffins, and other sweet treats as well as sandwiches, salads, cut-up veggies and fruits with dips, and an assortment of crackers, cheeses, and pepperoni slices as well as coffee, tea, lemonade, and water.
The Social is a fundraiser for the exercise programs available at the Senior Barn for no cost, including bimonthly Line Dancing and weekly Zumba classes. The suggested donation was $10, including food, games, and lots of fun dancing. Currently, the limit is 70 participants and every seat was filled by lively Seniors as well as by members of Clifton’s Adult Opportunity Center.
Kim Castellano of Power of One updated everyone on the successful Backpack drive, saying over 300 backpacks were distributed a few days earlier. She thanked all the volunteers as well as the Clifton Police and the Clifton Health Department. She talked about another series of workshops she will be leading starting on October 5th, a Personal Development Support Group focusing on stress, anxiety, and grief, to be held at the Senior Barn. More information will be shared in the coming weeks.
And then, the dancing started to lively music including country music for line dancing, oldies, and the standard fun YMCA. After all, those calories needed burning off!
Soon after, the leftover food was packed up and a crew of happy and fed people went home to rest and recuperate. The next social is scheduled for Sunday, October 22nd.
