Lauren, Patrick and Louie (2.5) Kittredge enjoyed petting goats, making sun-catchers and can’t wait to come back to buy produce at the Farm Stand.

When Cliftonites think about going to spend time on a farm for some fresh air and delicious fresh produce, they often think of going out to western NJ, but Clifton has its very own accessible farm - a gem of an urban oasis. The City Green Farm Eco-Center is a five-acre site located at 171 Grove Street in Clifton, New Jersey. The Farm has several acres of organic food production, which provides access to healthy, organic produce for our community, as well as a learning farm, chickens, goats, beehives, a greenhouse, and an outdoor kitchen. City Green uses the site to host field trips, job and volunteer opportunities, farm stands, family programs, educational programs, and a wide range of events.  Lisa Martin, Director of Food Access, told us that their mission is to connect people to food and nature and that they are excited to offer free events for the children, good food for the community, and education about nature for all.

History of City Green: In 2005, with the additional support of Passaic County Open Space funding and New Jersey Green Acres funding, the City of Clifton permanently preserved this land, formerly known as Schultheis Farm, to remain a green, open space forever. City Green leased the property in 2011 and has since transformed it into a hub of agricultural and environmental education and recreation. It is a model in sustainable community agriculture and urban farming, and a vibrant, living example of land production in harmony with the ecosystem.

The Rain Garden features native plants, perfect to feed the pollinators.
Come hang out in Story Grove! Enjoy the breeze, the shade, and the views on the stage. They even have a Little Free Library!

Open Saturdays: City Green will be open to the public one Saturday a month for their Open Saturdays at the farm. Visitors can meet the animals, including the Green Goats Jerry, Alfalfa, Rocky, Philipe, and Earl, the chickens, and lots of bunnies at McGregor’s Farmhouse. Cliftonites are welcome to explore the farm and gardens or join in the Learning Farm's self-led activities, which today included crafts, a scavenger hunt, a sensory garden, and a self-guided tour of the property. The next Open Saturday will be on August 19, 2023 from 10 am to 2 pm.
