If you are wondering, “What’s happening this week at Clifton High School?” I am here to tell you, absolutely nothing! From February 20th until February 24th, Clifton Public Schools will be out of session for Winter Recess. In past years, students and teachers have gotten this week-long break in November for the New Jersey Education Association convention, but for the 2022-2023 school year, schools were only closed for three days in November and the longer recess was moved to February. This year, Clifton schools had a Winter Break in December for the holidays, will have this Winter Recess in February, and will have a Spring Break in April - a perfect schedule for many pupils and faculty in dire need of some respite.
Enjoy it while you can; for the 2023-24 school year, schools will only be closed on Monday and Tuesday following President’s Day and the last day of school will be June 19. Shortening the February recess was one of the changes from Dr. Robertozzi’s Calendar Committee meetings over the summer and the surveys that were open to the community. The superintendent was looking for ways to end the school year a little earlier than usual and despite one suggestion being to remove religious days from the calendar, public support was not strong enough for Dr. Robertozzi to feel comfortable going through with this. So, with Board approval, the superintendent decided to shorten the February recess instead to shave a few days off the school year.
Almost everyone at Clifton High School has been practically counting down the minutes until recess and now it is finally here. Enjoy the week of rest, CHS!
