Valentines Day - Companion Animal Love Stories: The Renta/Scorziello Family

Image

As Valentine’s Day rolls around, we are all present to the love we have in our lives. And one of the big sources of love we have are our companion animals. The relationships we develop as we care for our companions is so special, and we wanted to share some local love stories of Clifton’s pets.

Renta/Scorziello Family and Phoebe and Joey (yes, she loves Friends)

Phoebe and Joey are brother and sister, black and white tuxedo cats. They are 3 1/2 years old and Kim Renta and her family have had them since they were 3 weeks old. They were adopted from the Clifton Animal Shelter

Kim Renta has been a volunteer for the Clifton Animal Shelter for over 10 years as a foster mom for kittens too small to be at the shelter. She would bottle feed them if needed, keep them warm, safe, clean, and fed. In addition to attending to their basic needs, a big part of her job is to give them a lot of love and attention so that when they are big enough to be adopted, they are friendly and playful and will make great pets for their forever family.

When asked why she adopted Joey and Phoebe out of the approximately one hundred kittens she has fostered over the last 10 years, she told us that they arrived as fosters in September (at only 3 weeks old) and by Christmas time there were still no adopters interested. She brought them into the shelter for several meet and greets with potential adopters, but for various reasons it didn't work out. She told us that Joey and Phoebe were absolutely incredible — friendly, adorable, outgoing, playful, in a word: perfection. She began hinting to her husband and children that she really wanted to adopt them. So her family secretly adopted them for Kim on Christmas Eve — complete with red bows around their necks.

Kim has always been an avid animal lover — cats, dogs, bunnies, squirrels, virtually any animal — but told us that there is nothing like having a pet who is happy to see you when you get home, who follow you around the house, who loves to play but loves just being held and petted even more.

We hope that you will consider adopting some of the beautiful pets at our local shelters to add more love and joy to your homes this Valentine's Day!
