Theater League of Clifton's Dinner Theater to Uncork a Zany Meshuggah-Nuns Show


The Theater League of Clifton (TLC) will present its dinner/theater production of “Meshuggah-Nuns” beginning on Saturday, Feb. 25, 7:30 p.m., at Mario’s Restaurant at 710 Van Houten Ave. in Clifton.

In addition to opening night, performance dates are Feb. 26, and March 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 18, and 19. Friday and Saturday performances start at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees begin at 4 p.m. 

The show, written by Dan Coggin, is being presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Samuel French Inc. Cast members include Chris Cantu of Rockland County, NY; Felicia Benson-Kraft of Maywood; Melyssa Searcy of Irvington; Debra Carozza of Wyckoff; and Kathy Monroe of Essex Fells.

Bill Kaufman will direct the musical comedy. Chick Barnes will serve as musical director, Judi Niebuhr is the choreographer, Jalmari Vanamo (Vice President of TLC) is the stage manager and purser, and Mark Peterson, (President of TLC) is the show’s producer.

The show involves the Little Sisters of Hoboken joining forces with a Tevye character (the lead male part in “Fiddler on the Roof”) to perform zany songs onboard an ecumenical cruise ship, creating ecumenical “nunsense.” (Meshuggah means “crazy” in Yiddish.) Director Kaufman has a long list of credits, directing shows for the TLC, Nutley Little Theater, the Montclair Operetta Club and the Bergen County Players. He’s also been a theater teacher at several northern New Jersey schools.

Tickets are priced at $55 per person and include a buffet dinner, bread, coffee, tea, soda and dessert. The restaurant can accommodate dietary restrictions by request in advance of reservation dates. A cash bar will be available for patrons.
