Clifton High School Teacher Earns Doctorate

Michael O'Connor, an esteemed educator at Clifton High School, recently received his doctoral degree from Saint Peter's University. With over 20 years of experience as a teacher, O'Connor's passion for education and dedication to his students is truly inspiring.

Dr. O'Connor began his teaching career in 1998 at Clifton's CCMS, where he taught middle school English and Social Studies. He later moved on to teach high school World and US History, Economics, and Philosophy. In addition to his teaching experience, O'Connor has also served as a vice principal in Paterson.

O'Connor's undergraduate degree is in political science and philosophy from Montclair State University, and he holds a master's degree in administration from Caldwell University. His doctoral degree in educational leadership from Saint Peter's University allowed him to delve deeper into his passion for understanding the impact of adverse childhood experiences on student achievement.

O'Connor's dissertation, titled "Adverse Childhood Experiences and Their Impact on Achievement," reflects his dedication to improving the lives of his students. Despite rigorous coursework and the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, O'Connor remained focused on achieving his goal.

When asked about the most promising aspects of education today, O'Connor highlighted the potential of using data to adjust teaching in real-time. He also expressed his desire to move into administration and create meaningful programming to help students find success.

In addition to his work as an educator, O'Connor enjoys realistic pencil art and art in general. He credits his family and friends as his biggest supporters throughout his journey.

According to Superintendent Dr. Robertozzi, "Dr. O'Connor's achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of educators everywhere. The Clifton Public School District is honored to have him as a part of our team. On behalf of the entire district, we are incredibly proud of his outstanding achievement."
