The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) notified residents of lane and shoulder closures on Route 21 beginning Monday August 8th.
The left lane of Route 21 in Passaic will be closed for survey work. The shoulder in both directions will be closed to install construction signs.
Later in August, daytime lane closures will be required in both directions for curb work and deck repairs.
The work is being done in preparation for the milling and paving of Route 21 in 2023.
The work is part of an $8million federally funded project to preserve 5 miles of pavement and repair 8 bridges on Route 21 in Clifton, Passaic, Belleville and Nutley.
Currently, the project is expected to be finished in the Fall of 2023, but weather and other factors may affect that timing.
